Sandra, a friendly German shepherd dog, stepped in to care for two lion cubs after their mother abandoned them. The cubs were born to Sirona, a first-time mother at the White Lion Park in Vladivostok. However, staff members grew concerned when they noticed that Sirona wasn’t adequately caring for her offspring and didn’t seem content with them. The lion cubs were dehydrated and hungry, and the employees worried that the situation could become dangerous. To prevent this, they handed the cubs over to Sandra, who took on the role of surrogate mother. Despite being initially shy and distant, Sandra proved to be a loving and capable caregiver for the lion cubs.
According to Viktor Agafonov, the head of the animal reserve, Sirona’s conduct was atypical and gave the impression that she was attacking them.
According to Viktor’s explanation to the Daily Mail, the behavior of the lioness towards the dogs is unusual and she appears to be following them closely. Additionally, one of the canines seems to have sustained a minor injury, making this an extraordinary situation.
Thankfully, Sandra welcomed the two young kids into her home with open arms and without any hesitation. Even though she usually didn’t like cats, Sandra was excited to become a foster parent and expand her family.
Despite having given birth to one puppy, the cute little dog continued to take care of the other two pups. It’s quite remarkable that the same dog who dislikes cats decided to adopt young African lions as part of her family. Victor mentioned that even though she has a smaller cub compared to the lion cubs, the dog has enough milk as she has already fed eight puppies. The park’s director praised the 8-year-old foster mother for doing an excellent job in fulfilling this significant responsibility and nurturing the children.
